As a key member of our Online student advising team at the West campus, you will play a vital role in supporting undergraduate students in making timely progress toward a degree.

Job Summary

As an Academic Success Advisor, you will utilize holistic academic advising and support strategies to empower undergraduate students to achieve their academic goals. You will work closely with students, faculty, and staff to provide individual and group academic advising, monitor student academic progress, and develop effective practices to promote student retention and graduation. This is a remote opportunity, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere in Arizona.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group academic advising to undergraduate students, supporting their academic success and progress toward a degree.
  • Collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to identify academic options, including degrees, tutoring, counseling, career services, and extracurricular activities.
  • Monitor student academic progress using technology-based tools, such as degree progress software, customer relationship management systems, and analytics tools.
  • Develop and implement effective practices to promote student retention and graduation, utilizing retention-focused strategies and relevant advising/student development/engagement theories.
  • Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with peers, faculty, students, administration, and external groups.
  • Communicate effectively in person, writing, and by phone, utilizing collegial interpersonal skills.
  • Proactively monitor student academic performance, addressing concerns, questions, or issues, and collaborating with students to identify solutions.
  • Act as a college/department/school representative to current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and external groups on issues related to academic success.
  • Participate in orientation or recruiting events/activities/workshops, presenting information to students and families.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as education, counseling, or a related field.
  • One (1) year or more of previous experience in advising, student recruitment/retention, or related student services, utilizing a proactive and innovative approach.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, and methods of evidence-based academic advising strategies.
  • Experience in interpreting student needs and determining when referral to other University resources is appropriate.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in person, writing, and by phone.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in counseling, higher education, or a closely related field from a regionally-accredited college or university.
  • Direct academic advising experience with undergraduate student populations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ASU's academic structure, programs, colleges, departments, and organization.
  • Experience in designing presentation materials and giving oral presentations in group settings.
  • Experience in applying the principles, techniques, and methods of teamwork, compromise, and collaboration to produce desired outcomes.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer applications and internet-based research tools.

Compensation and Benefits
