About the Role

The Impact Manager (IM) is a vital component of City Year's WSWC service model, responsible for leading and developing a team of AmeriCorps members as they work to strengthen schools and support students in achieving their full potential. Reporting to an Impact Director, the IM will work closely with teachers, principals, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of City Year's programs and services.

Key Responsibilities

  • AmeriCorps Member Experience: Manage, coach, and develop up to 8 AmeriCorps members to achieve service performance and standards requirements while reaching their leadership development potential.
  • Building Conditions for Success: Cultivate strong partnerships with teachers, principals, school officials, and other key stakeholders to ensure the necessary conditions and resources are in place for AmeriCorps members to deliver high-quality interventions.
  • Service Delivery & Impact: Lead AmeriCorps members to implement City Year's WSWC model with a high degree of quality, making data-informed decisions to drive student outcomes and achieve partnership goals.
  • Additional Duties: Participate in AmeriCorps member recruitment interviews, attend whole-site events, and engage in relevant network-wide meetings and calls to provide insight, feedback, and collective problem-solving.

A Typical Day

As an Impact Manager at City Year, a typical day will be dynamic and varied, influenced by the needs of the school and the team. Here's an example of what a typical day could look like:

  • Start the day with a centering meeting with the team to set priorities and align on goals.
  • Support student arrival and observe AmeriCorps members providing interventions.
  • Review AmeriCorps member intervention plans and provide feedback to drive student engagement and achievement.
  • Attend partnership meetings or school initiatives to stay informed and build strong relationships.
  • Coach AmeriCorps members through communication challenges and conflict resolution.
  • Meet with the Impact Director for support and professional development.
  • Host site visits and roundtables with potential and current funding partners.
  • End the day with a centering meeting to reflect on progress and plan for the next day.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful as an Impact Manager at City Year, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience, preferably in the education sector.
  • Experience managing and developing diverse teams, particularly early-workforce members.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytic, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build complex professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience holding people accountable to performance goals and navigating difficult conversations.
  • Ability to translate mission and vision into actionable plans and draw connections between daily work and organizational goals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or familiarity with AmeriCorps/National Service.
  • Familiarity with Columbus City Schools system.
