We're seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Before and After School Instructor to join our team at Kenmore Elementary, where you'll play a vital role in shaping the lives of elementary-age students through our Before and After-School Enrichment (BASE) program.
About the Role
As a Lead Before and After School Instructor, you'll be responsible for guiding students through a variety of engaging activities, including sports, arts, STEM, and hands-on learning experiences. You'll work closely with our program supervisor to create a safe, caring, and inclusive environment that fosters social-emotional learning, teamwork, and creative exploration. This is a full-time, onsite position that requires a strong commitment to working with children and a passion for making a positive impact on their lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum provided by the YDCoE.
- Supervise a group of children to ensure their health, safety, and positive experience.
- Provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians on a day-to-day basis, sharing confidential and evaluative information as needed.
- Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
- Maintain a developmentally appropriate site, including appearance, décor, and cleanliness.
- Prepare and serve snacks, clean the snack area, and assist with check-in/check-out for parents.
- Assume responsibility for program operation when DCYF-designated and qualified staff are not on premises.
- Provide onsite support for the school-based Play Everyday Program.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have 2 or more years of experience working with children in a camp, childcare, tutoring, or nannying setting.
- Demonstrate Y values: caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty.
- Have experience planning and implementing group activities.
- Have completed 12 credits of 100-level or above college-level coursework and possess a GED or high school diploma.
- Hold certification in CPR/First Aid.
- Possess a valid Food Worker Card.
- Be cleared through the Portable Background Check in the statewide registry MERIT.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are highly preferred:
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Have leadership or supervisory experience (1-2 years).
- Possess knowledge of and previous experience working with diverse populations.
- Be able to speak a language in addition to English.
- Have relevant education, training, and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the role.
