About the Role
The Tutor/Mentor will play a vital role in guiding junior high and high school students within the Ogden City school district towards academic success. This position requires a strong foundation in various subjects, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently. As a Tutor/Mentor, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on students' lives, helping them develop essential skills, build confidence, and achieve their academic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tutoring services to students in the GEAR UP & AVID programs, focusing on modeling learning techniques to achieve academic success.
- Offer basic college awareness mentoring, assisting students in understanding the college application process and exploring higher education opportunities.
- Help students develop organizational skills, time management strategies, and study habits to enhance their academic performance.
- Work with students from diverse backgrounds and learning styles, adapting your approach to meet their individual needs.
- Establish and maintain appropriate boundaries with students, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Respond to feedback and continuously improve your tutoring strategies to meet the evolving needs of students.
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must possess:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Multidisciplinary subject expertise, with advanced math and science knowledge being a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- The ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and be self-motivated.
- Maturity and the ability to establish appropriate boundaries with students.
- A willingness to learn and adapt to new teaching methods and technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will be considered advantageous:
- Experience working with junior high or high school students in an academic setting.
- Previous experience providing tutoring services, either privately or through an organization.
- Familiarity with a wide range of subjects, including math, science, and English.
- Strong listening and communication skills, with the ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds.
