About Us
AWS is at the forefront of cloud computing, and our Economic Development team plays a vital role in realizing our global expansion strategy. We work closely with AWS leadership, subject matter experts, and internal customers to build collaborative partnerships in our host communities. As a Manager, Economic Development, you'll be an integral part of this team, driving projects forward and mentoring colleagues along the way.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Internal Customers: Work seamlessly with business development, real estate, legal, tax, finance, HR, and PR teams to drive AWS investments forward.
 - Communicate with External Stakeholders: Effectively articulate the scope and benefits of AWS investments to external stakeholders at all levels and across disciplines.
 - Support Expansion Projects: Provide direct support to expansions projects, from site identification and due diligence to business case development and infrastructure assessment.
 - Develop Business Cases: Create and present business cases, analyzing data and presenting findings to stakeholders.
 - Manage Incentives and Agreements: Own the portfolio from negotiation to realization, managing relationships with outside legal counsel and professional service providers.
 - Craft Educational and Workforce Development Plans: Facilitate collaborative plans leveraging internal stakeholders to drive workforce development.
 - Exhibit High Judgement: Work independently in a constantly changing environment, demonstrating high judgement and attention to detail.
 
Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
 - 6+ years of economic development experience, including recent data center transactional experience and subject matter expertise within a corporate organization, law firm, or government agency.
 
Preferred Qualifications
To stand out, you'll ideally have:
- Deep experience dealing with corporate business leaders, high-level government officials, and external stakeholders.
 - Experience leading and managing teams, third-party vendors, and contractors.
 - A proven track record of developing successful partnerships with economic development agencies, governments, and private stakeholders.
 - Significant experience managing economic development issues for large-scale expansion projects.
 - An MBA, JD, CPA, or other recognized professional accreditation.
 - Experience with tax-related incentives, concessions, and agreements.
 - Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience making public presentations.
 
Skills and Competencies
To excel in this role, you'll need:
- A deep understanding of the global data center landscape and AWS data centers.
 - Experience with site identification, due diligence, and land entitlement.
 - Knowledge of enabling infrastructure, including power, water, and networking.
 - Data center financial modeling and contract negotiation skills.
 - Excellent organizational and project management skills.
 - The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation and Benefits
Our compensation package is competitive and reflects the cost of labor across various US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $124,600/year to $206,100/year, depending on market location and experience. You'll also be eligible for equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation, as well as a comprehensive benefits package.
