We're now seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to join our dynamic team, traveling between our Cypress and Cinco Ranch locations.
About the Role
As a Medical Assistant with UTHealth Houston Surgery, you'll play a vital supportive role in our clinical team, ensuring seamless patient care and exceptional customer service. Your responsibilities will be diverse, ranging from preparing patients for visits and performing various medical procedures to maintaining clinic supplies and handling administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform duties that promote quality patient care and customer satisfaction, ensuring a positive experience for every patient.
- Participate in planning and preparing for patient visits, ensuring all necessary materials and information are available.
- Room patients efficiently, documenting vital information such as chief complaints, medication lists, and allergies.
- Perform various medical tests and procedures as required, including hearing and vision testing, EKG, and specimen collection.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinic environment, preparing rooms between patients and restocking supplies as needed.
- Assist with routine and specialty procedures, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to learn.
- Handle clerical duties such as scheduling follow-up appointments, photocopying, scanning, and faxing.
- Manage telephone messaging and in-person screenings with appropriate follow-up, ensuring effective communication.
- Uphold HIPAA guidelines to respect and maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Take on additional duties as assigned, demonstrating adaptability and a commitment to team success.
Essential Qualifications
To excel in this role, you'll need:
- A high school diploma or equivalent, with completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program preferred.
- At least six months of experience as a Medical Assistant, or completion of a relevant training program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- The ability to use and care for standard clinic equipment.
- Physical stamina to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently.
Preferred Qualifications
While not mandatory, the following qualifications can enhance your application:
- EPIC experience, which can streamline your integration into our systems.
- Surgery scheduling experience, particularly in a general surgical or breast care context.
- A detail-oriented approach, ensuring accuracy in patient care and administrative tasks.
