As a Moderator - Laboratory Science, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that centers are correctly and consistently assessing student work and that the materials submitted for moderation meet the required standard.

About the Role and Responsibilities

This is an exciting opportunity for individuals with a strong background in laboratory science to join our team and make a real difference in the education sector. As a Moderator, you will be responsible for completing moderation activities, including attending team and internal standardization meetings, demonstrating continuous professional development (CPD) across your area of expertise, and moderating center marking and document outcomes in line with quality assurance guidelines. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Attending team and internal standardization meetings as required, taking ownership of collecting evidence as instructed by the Chief Moderator
  • Demonstrating CPD across your area of expertise
  • Moderating centre marking and document outcomes in line with quality assurance guidelines
  • Planning moderation activities for providers allocated in line with NCFE requirements and the moderation sampling strategy, ensuring a proactive approach is taken
  • Conducting timely moderation activities to monitor and review performance against Awarding Organisation (AO) and regulatory requirements to ensure quality and consistency

Essential and Preferred Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a minimum of a level 3 qualification in the subject area advertised, as well as evidence of working within the laboratory science sector. You will also need to have relevant teaching and/or assessing experience, excellent report writing skills, and self-motivation and organizational skills. Preferred qualifications include:

  • A degree in a relevant subject area, such as biology, chemistry, or physics
  • Experience of working in a quality assurance role, preferably in an awarding organization or educational setting
  • Knowledge of the T Level Technical Qualification in Science (Level 3) and the moderation process
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with centers, providers, and other stakeholders
