We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Education Assistant - Inclusion Specialist to join our team of dedicated professionals. As an Education Assistant - Inclusion Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs, working closely with teachers, therapists, and other education professionals to create a personalized and inclusive learning environment. Key Responsibilities
- Work individually with students with special needs, supporting their educational progress and helping them achieve their Individual Education Program (IEP) goals
- Modify lessons, instructional materials, quizzes, and tests to ensure accessibility and comprehension for students with special needs
- Conduct parallel teaching/tutoring, taking notes for students, and working with small groups to promote learning and socialization
- Maintain behavior reinforcement programs, providing physical support and assistance to ensure students' safety and well-being
- Assist with major personal, physical, and custodial needs, including feeding, lifting, positioning, assisted walking, pushing a wheelchair, and toilet needs
- Support students in developing fine and gross motor skills, balance, and interpreting directions, and assist with range of motion exercises, physical/occupational therapy programs, and physical education
- Communicate effectively with students, using a variety of methods, such as assistive software, sign language, Braille, and typing/writing, to facilitate communication and promote functional communication skills
- Monitor and document student activities and progress, providing regular updates for teachers and parents
- Attend consultations with specialists, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date on best practices and strategies for supporting students with special needs
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- An Associate's degree or equivalent experience working with special needs children
- At least six months of experience working with students with special needs, preferably in an educational setting
- Knowledge of curriculum content, universal precautions, and emergency medical care, as well as basic behavioral modification and motivation techniques
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, administrators, students, and parents
- The ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds, with regular standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands to finger, handle, or feel
- A commitment to supporting the feeding and toileting of students, with training provided
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- A Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field
- Experience working with students with severe multiple impairments, autism, or other complex needs
- Knowledge of assistive technology, adaptive equipment, and augmentative communication devices
- Certification in CPR, First Aid, or other relevant areas
- Bilingual or multilingual skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students and families from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds
