About the Role

As an Outpatient Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) at Workwarp, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the quality and completeness of medical record documentation for outpatient encounters. Collaborating closely with physicians, coders, and clinical staff, you'll utilize your expertise in documentation and coding to drive improved documentation results for our organization. Your work will be instrumental in capturing the clinical picture, severity of illness, and complexity of patients, providing specific and complete information for coding, profiling, and outcomes reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct concurrent, prospective, and retrospective evaluations of medical records to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians and other clinicians to clarify documentation and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Utilize knowledge of national coding guidelines (ICD-10 and CPT), Hierarchical Condition Categories (HCC), and standards of compliance to drive documentation improvement.
  • Analyze medical records to ensure accurate and complete capture of patient information.
  • Provide feedback and education to healthcare providers on documentation best practices.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, coding guidelines, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • A Registered Nurse (RN) license with certifications such as CCDS, CDIP, RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CRC, or CCS; or a combination thereof.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in the clinical field (RN), CDI field (CCDS, CDIP), or coding (RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CRC, CCS).
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and HCC coding guidelines.
  • Exemplary organizational and communication skills.
  • The ability to build relationships, negotiate processes, and influence behaviors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 or more years' experience in HCC/Risk Adjustment.
  • Previous experience working with electronic medical record systems.
  • Demonstrated Microsoft Office competency.
