About the Role: Facilities and Material Handling Engineer I - V

We're seeking a talented Facilities and Material Handling Engineer to join our team on a remote basis, with a preference for being domiciled in Pittsburgh, PA. As a key member of our engineering team, you'll play a critical role in designing, implementing, and optimizing material handling systems, facilities, and equipment for our logistics and distribution centers. Your expertise will help us drive operational excellence, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Automation and Systems: Support the design, integration, and testing of material handling sortation systems, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems, and other automation technologies.
  • Facilities and Material Handling Engineering: Develop and design sites, buildings, offices, material handling systems, and sortation equipment to meet business objectives and customer needs.
  • Project Management: Plan, direct, control, and implement engineering, construction, and start-up projects for logistics and distribution centers, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery.
  • Industrial Engineering and Process: Analyze operational data, identify areas for improvement, and implement process enhancements to optimize efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Operations Research, Planning, and Analysis: Conduct data analysis to inform long-term network design and capacity planning for current and future facilities.
  • Operations Technology: Research, design, develop, deploy, and support new and current technology solutions to improve performance, reduce operating costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Procurement Engineering: Provide technical expertise and support for procurement activities related to material handling systems and equipment.
  • Security Engineering: Oversee the security of Operations Technology (OT) devices on our network, collaborating with IT, InfoSec, and Network Services teams to ensure the integrity and security of our systems.

Essential Functions:

  • Analyze performance data within engineering, utilizing tools and software to answer complex engineering questions and identify areas for improvement.
  • Research, analyze, and consolidate technical information, presenting findings and recommendations to management and stakeholders.
  • Prepare accurate expenditure proposals, cost justification analyses, and other documents to support business decisions.
  • Apply project management fundamentals and concepts, developing progress reports, meeting minutes, and field communication memos.
  • Participate in Control Self Monitoring (CSM) and Business Control Self-Assessment (BCSA) processes, ensuring compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to adapt to changing priorities and needs.

Minimum Education and Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical or quantitative field (e.g., mathematics) is required. Specific disciplines may be needed depending on the area of focus, such as:

  • Automation and Systems: Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • Facilities and Material Handling Engineering: Mechanical or Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Architecture, or related field.
  • Industrial Engineering and Process: Industrial Engineering, Logistics, or related field.
  • Operations Research, Planning, and Analysis: Industrial Engineering or related field.
  • Operations Technology Security Engineering: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or IT Security-related field.

No prior experience is required, but relevant skills and knowledge are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and web-based applications is necessary, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills, presentation skills, and time management, organizational, and multi-tasking abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Serve in a project management capacity for large CapEx projects, overseeing distribution center and conveyor system construction from planning to operational handover. Collaborate with internal departments, including planning, design, procurement, real estate, IT, finance, environmental, and legal. Contract and manage system integrators, developers, general contractors, and architectural/engineering firms. Conduct site visits to monitor progress, oversee commissioning, and support startup efforts.

  • U.S. Pay Range: $3,891.60/month - $13,571.58/month
  • Colorado Pay Range: $4,107.80/month - $13,006.09/month
  • New York Pay Range: $4,107.80/month - $13,571.58/month
  • New York City Pay Range: $5,188.80/month - $13,571.58/month
