About the Role

As a Remote Medical Support Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of our medical centers by providing administrative support in areas such as appointment management, release of information, and insurance processing. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of veterans and contribute to the success of our healthcare initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage patient appointments and consults, including scheduling, cancellations, and re-scheduling, as well as entering no-show information and preparing for clinic visits.
  • Provide general reception support in Release of Information (ROI) offices at various medical centers, ensuring seamless day-to-day operations.
  • Scan insurance cards, protect secure information, and complete all insurance buffer (ICB) encounters as required.
  • Scan records and documents into Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) to support Health Information Management (HIM) functions.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing phone calls, ensuring effective communication with patients, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders.
  • Review requests for reimbursement of travel costs and reconcile claims/vouchers for payments using electronic systems.
  • Assist in arranging transportation for eligible patients and work with clinical teams to determine the appropriate mode of transportation.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications:

  • Be a citizen of the United States of America.
  • Possess the ability to speak clearly, hear, and write English.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using computer programs, including spreadsheets and word processing, with a typing speed of 40-50 wpm and minimal errors.
  • Have familiarity with medical terminology, hospital terminology, and/or clinics.
  • Meet the minimum experience or education requirements: six months of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work, or one year of education above high school.
  • Be able to pass a required level of security clearance (NACI-level background check).

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following qualifications can enhance your candidacy:

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting or administrative role.
  • Knowledge of VA policies and procedures.
  • Technical proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) and other healthcare software.
