Introduction to the Aquatic Resources Educational Center

The Aquatic Resources Educational Center, operated by the Division of Fish and Wildlife, is a unique and dynamic facility that focuses on promoting environmental education and conservation of wetlands, fishing, and other aquatic resources. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Aquatic Resources Educational Center Naturalist II to join our team and contribute to the development and delivery of engaging educational programs for students and the general public.

Job Summary

As an Aquatic Resources Educational Center Naturalist II, you will play a key role in presenting wetland environmental education material to fifth-grade students, leading youth fishing programs, and developing and maintaining program materials, displays, and equipment. You will also assist in the care and maintenance of aquariums and live aquatic species, and perform other tasks related to the preparation and presentation of field trip and fishing programs. Key Responsibilities

  • Present educational material and technical information to groups and students on topics related to wetlands, fishing, and aquatic conservation
  • Develop and maintain program materials, displays, and equipment to support educational programs
  • Assist in the care and maintenance of aquariums and live aquatic species
  • Lead youth fishing programs and provide instruction on fishing techniques, safety, and equipment
  • Provide general customer service and information to visitors, and respond to inquiries and requests in a professional and courteous manner
  • Assist with special events and outreach programs, and participate in the development of social media content to promote the center's programs and activities
  • Collaborate with other staff and volunteers to achieve the center's goals and objectives, and contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • Experience working with children and young adults, such as academic/athletic tutoring, camp counseling, youth volunteering, classroom assisting, or education teaching
  • Six months of experience using standard computer software programs for word processing, Excel, or Publisher
  • Knowledge of public speaking or interpretation, and the ability to communicate complex information in a clear and engaging manner
  • Knowledge of aquatic or environmental science, and a passion for promoting conservation and sustainability
  • Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked, or cancelled, or disqualified from driving)

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience working in an outdoor setting, and the ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
  • Knowledge of fishing techniques, safety, and equipment, and the ability to instruct others in these areas
  • Experience with social media marketing and content development, and the ability to promote the center's programs and activities through various channels
  • Ability to speak multiple languages, and the ability to communicate with diverse audiences
