Job Overview

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Cinematography Instructor to join our team at UCLA Extension. As a Cinematography Instructor, you will have the opportunity to impart your knowledge and expertise to students who are passionate about film and television production. You will be responsible for teaching cinematography courses, developing curriculum, and providing guidance and support to students as they navigate the evolving landscape of cinematography.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use subject-matter expertise to impart knowledge to students and leverage additional resources to enhance the curriculum
  • Develop or update course syllabus to meet campus approval requirements in consultation with the UCLA Extension Program Director and Program Manager
  • Design interactive and motivational classroom activities to fully engage participants and reinforce student learning
  • Update materials periodically and regularly monitor course evaluations to make adjustments and improvements to the curriculum
  • Utilize Canvas, an online course support platform, to distribute course materials, syllabi, assignments, and feedback
  • Post final student grades to the transcript system in a timely manner and respond to student questions and learning needs
  • Communicate with the Program Director and Program Staff in a timely manner and complete required administrative tasks
  • Participate in required orientations and instructor training programs

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must possess the following essential qualifications:

  • Professional experience in cinematography for film and/or television
  • Current knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in subject area
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey conceptual and complex ideas and information
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence
  • Proficiency in or willingness to learn the use of instructional technology and online teaching tools

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following preferred qualifications are highly desirable:

  • College-level and/or continuing education teaching experience
  • Experience designing curriculum and measuring student performance

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits

The salary for this position is $2,700 per course, per quarter. Courses are typically 33 hours per quarter. In addition to a competitive salary, you will also be eligible for comprehensive benefits, including access to UCLA's recreational facilities, libraries, and other resources.
