Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Manager of Marketing and Communications to join our team. As a key member of the Fleming Museum's staff, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic marketing initiatives to promote the museum's exhibitions, programs, and events. You will work closely with the Director of the Fleming Museum of Art, other university departments, and external partners to fulfill university-wide goals and standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive marketing and communications plans to promote the museum's exhibitions, programs, and events
  • Manage the museum's brand identity and ensure consistency across all marketing materials and channels
  • Collaborate with the Director and other staff members to plan and implement exhibitions and public programming
  • Build and maintain relationships with local media outlets, community organizations, and other stakeholders to promote the museum's activities
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the museum's membership program and annual giving strategies
  • Provide administrative support for the museum's advisory board and stewardship efforts
  • Work with colleagues from other university departments, including CAS, UVM Strategic Communications, and School of the Arts, to achieve university-wide goals and standards

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field
  • 2-4 years of experience in marketing and communications, preferably in a museum, non-profit arts organization, or higher education setting
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a willingness to work in a team environment
  • Excellent communication, writing, and project management skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including museum staff, university administrators, community leaders, and media representatives

Desirable Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Experience working in museums, non-profit arts organizations, or higher education settings
  • Effective management skills in areas of marketing, membership, and/or general administration
  • Substantial knowledge of the art museum field, specifically academic art museums
  • Familiarity with university-wide goals and standards, and experience working with university departments and external partners

Skills and Competencies

To excel in this role, you will need to possess:

  • Strong marketing and communications skills, including social media, email marketing, and public relations
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite, as well as experience with marketing automation software and social media scheduling tools

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits
