Role Overview and Responsibilities
The My Brother's Keeper Director will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the My Brother's Keeper Family and Community Engagement Project (FCEP). This project aims to improve the academic outcomes and life chances of boys and young men of color by engaging families, schools, and the community. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by this group and a proven track record of developing and implementing effective strategies to address these challenges.
- Work closely with principals, counselors, and families to recruit boys and young men of color into the program and ensure their active participation.
 - Coordinate and schedule all project activities, including parent education workshops, parent-child training, counseling sessions, and community events.
 - Build and maintain strong relationships with district staff, community agencies, and other stakeholders to leverage resources and support for the project.
 - Develop and implement evidence-based programs for parent education, fatherhood training, youth leadership development, civic responsibility, community service, enrichment activities, mentorship, college and career pathways, and professional development of staff.
 - Collaborate with partners to provide meetings, speaking engagements, and other collaborative efforts to improve advocacy, targeted interventions, increase family knowledge on learning and pathways, and increase staff knowledge and understanding of culturally responsive practices and pedagogy.
 - Work with principals and the BCSD Extended School Day program to provide families with safe and equitable access to school buildings for volunteer activities, training, shared decision-making, and other activities.
 - Be flexible and willing to work varied hours to interact effectively with all stakeholders, including evenings and weekends as needed.
 
Essential Qualifications and Skills
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications and skills:
- A strong passion for education and community engagement, with a particular focus on supporting the development of boys and young men of color.
 - A bachelor's degree in education, social work, or a related field, with a master's degree preferred.
 - New York State Certification is required, with experience working in education or a related field highly desirable.
 - Excellent communication, interpersonal, and project management skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
 - Proven ability to develop and implement effective programs and strategies to support the academic achievement and personal development of boys and young men of color.
 - Strong knowledge of culturally responsive practices and pedagogy, with experience working with diverse communities and families.
 - Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
