Job Overview
We're seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our team on a remote basis. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining our data infrastructure, ensuring that our data products and platforms are robust, scalable, and meet the evolving needs of our business. Your expertise will be instrumental in driving data-driven decision-making across the organization, enabling us to better serve our customers and stay ahead in the competitive sports retail landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement database and table schemas for new and existing data sources, ensuring data quality and integrity.
 - Develop and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to facilitate data accommodation into our data warehouse.
 - Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including analysts, data scientists, and product teams, to gather and deliver high-quality data that meets business needs.
 - Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical data designs, ensuring that data solutions are aligned with business objectives.
 - Develop and maintain technical specification documentation for all reports and processes.
 - Work closely with production engineering teams to manage data structures and evolve our data products.
 - Participate in design sessions and code reviews to elevate the quality of data engineering across the organization.
 - Lead design sessions and code reviews, sharing your expertise and experience with the team.
 - Participate in an on-call rotation for support during and after business hours.
 
Technical Skills and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should possess:
- Expertise in SQL and/or SQL-based languages, with a strong understanding of performance tuning for SQL queries.
 - Experience with programming languages such as Python (Preferred), Scala, C++, or Java.
 - Strong understanding of Normalized/Dimensional model disciplines and data warehousing techniques.
 - Experience working with cloud-based data warehouses like Snowflake, Big Query, Synapse, or RedShift.
 - Proficiency in ETL/ELT concepts, with experience using tools like Databricks, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog.
 - Experience with CI/CD on Databricks using tools like GitHub Actions and Databricks CLI.
 - Strong grasp of data management principles, including Data Lake, Data Mesh, Data Catalog, and Data Quality.
 
Essential Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in data warehousing and development using data technologies.
 - Strong experience working with ETL/ELT concepts and data integration.
 - Experience with at least one cloud platform: Microsoft Azure (Preferred), Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
 - Experience with message queuing and stream processing (Kafka, Flink, Spark Streams).
 - Strong communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages to drive action and alignment.
 - Comfort with agile delivery methodologies in a fast-paced complex environment.
 
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in the retail, supply chain, logistics, manufacturing, or marketing industries.
 - Proficiency in Linux/Unix environments.
 - Experience with BI tooling like Qlik, MicroStrategy, Tableau, PowerBI, or Looker.
 - Experience with orchestration tools like Control-M or Airflow.
