Sharks Sports and Entertainment (SSE) is a dynamic and multi-faceted organization that encompasses the SAP Center, the NHL San Jose Sharks, the AHL San Jose Barracuda, the Tech CU Arena, three Sharks Ice facilities, and the non-profit Sharks Foundation. As a part of the Sharks and Barracuda Street Team presented by Coca-Cola, you'll be at the forefront of our marketing and community outreach efforts, working closely with our Manager, Marketing Programs and Mascot Operations to drive engagement and excitement around our teams.

About the Role

We're seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Marketing and Community Outreach Team Member to join our part-time Sharks and Barracuda Street Team. As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for executing hockey-specific events and programs, providing marketing presence at community outreach appearances, and staffing concourse tables during Barracuda games. If you're a self-starter with a passion for hockey, marketing, and community engagement, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and instruct Team Teal Street hockey clinics at local schools, after-school programs, and community centers, promoting the San Jose Sharks and Barracuda brands while developing the skills of young hockey players.
  • Provide marketing presence at Team Teal community outreach appearances, including festivals, fairs, team events, and other events as needed, to engage with fans and promote our teams.
  • Develop and execute Team Teal marketing, education, and fan development programming at local schools, after-school programs, and community centers, driving interest and excitement around our teams.
  • Assist with in-office tasks, mailings, distribution, event preparation, and other duties as requested by the Sharks or Barracuda teams.
  • Staff concourse tables within the Frenzy Fun Zone during Barracuda home game nights, fulfilling fan experiences, assisting with youth hockey intermissions, and providing exceptional customer service.

Requirements and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you'll need to meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Be at least 18 years old and reside in the Bay Area (we're unable to pay for relocation or travel expenses).
  • Be available to work 20+ hours per week, including days, evenings, weekends, and events as needed, depending on the event schedule.
  • Commit to working 29 Barracuda pre-season and regular season game dates, as well as all playoff games.
  • Have a clean DMV record and be able to pass a standard background check.
  • Establish and maintain a positive rapport within and outside of the organization.
  • Possess an upbeat, outgoing attitude and outlook on work.

In addition to these minimum qualifications, we're looking for individuals with:

  • Previous experience working with or a desire to work with children.
  • Previous experience coaching children.
  • Comfort handling and managing money.
  • An outgoing, enthusiastic personality and a strong ability to work as part of a team.
  • The ability to think and react quickly in any situation.
  • The ability to provide hockey instruction.
  • Bilingual skills (extra points if you can speak multiple languages!).

Physical Requirements

This role requires the ability to:

  • Operate, transport, and manipulate certain equipment up to 15 pounds with or without accommodation.
  • Bend at the waist, reach overhead, and lift up to 15 pounds with or without accommodation.
  • Physically navigate stairs and catwalks at SSE facilities during normal work hours and events with or without accommodation.
  • Stand for long periods of time inside and outside.
