About the Role

As a Network Engineer for Southwest Airlines, you'll be responsible for planning, implementing, and maintaining the company's network infrastructure. This includes designing and optimizing network architectures, configuring and troubleshooting network equipment, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless connectivity and communication. Your expertise will be crucial in driving the future of Southwest Airlines and keeping their People connected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Network Planning and Implementation: Design and implement new network solutions, as well as optimize existing ones to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Network Equipment Management: Install, configure, and maintain network equipment, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Network Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot network issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Collaboration and Leadership: Provide technical guidance and support to junior staff members, and collaborate with Business Clients and Technology support teams to resolve complex issues.
  • Network Security: Configure routing and switching to maximize network efficiency and security, and recommend changes to improve network configurations.
  • Project Management: Prioritize tasks effectively, manage multiple simultaneous projects, and meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of quality.
  • Communication: Develop, present, and effectively communicate complex ideas and strategies to various audiences, both technical and non-technical.

Essential Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as Computer Science, Networking, or Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of network fundamentals, including protocols, devices, and architectures.
  • Experience with network design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex network issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • The ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications can give you a competitive edge:

  • Experience with network security, including firewalls, VPNs, and access control.
  • Knowledge of cloud networking, including AWS or Azure.
  • Experience with network monitoring and management tools.
  • Certifications, such as CCNA or CCNP, can be a plus.
