Job Overview - Senior Technical Expert - Powertrain Development and Innovation

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Senior Technical Expert to join our Powertrain Development team. As a Senior Technical Expert, you will play a critical role in the development, testing, and evaluation of our fuel cell powertrain systems. Your expertise will be instrumental in driving the success of our projects, ensuring that our products meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instrument Heavy Duty Fuel Cell test vehicles and stationary test articles with proprietary and off-the-shelf data acquisition equipment.
  • Lead or support test planning, oversight, and execution, ensuring that all tests are conducted safely and efficiently.
  • Lead Powertrain evaluation on public roads and closed test tracks, analyzing data and issuing technical or summary reports as required.
  • Diagnose and repair problems related to instrumentation, hybrid/Fuel Cell, and electrical systems, applying your technical expertise to resolve complex issues.
  • Plan resources, including vehicles, test schedules, and data acquisition equipment, to ensure that projects are well-resourced and executed smoothly.
  • Assess and adjust project progress to maintain targets and expectations, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards, ensuring that all work is conducted in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Lead the development and use of Job Instruction Sheets (JIS), Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Risk Assessments (RA), and other documentation to ensure that all processes are well-documented and followed.
  • Able to learn new skills in a fast-paced environment as technology evolves, demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Build consensus and trust with related stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes, fostering a collaborative and respectful work environment.
  • Domestic and international travel up to 30% may be required, providing opportunities to work with global teams and experience different cultures.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Minimum 1 year of R&D experience with Heavy Duty Fuel Cell systems, demonstrating a deep understanding of fuel cell technology and its applications.
  • Minimum 3 years of Heavy Duty Service industry experience, with a strong background in vehicle maintenance, repair, and diagnostics.
  • Thorough understanding and working-level experience with heavy-duty vehicle electrical systems, including instrumentation, hybrid/Fuel Cell, and electrical systems.
  • Working-level knowledge and understanding of Toyota Fuel Cell System, with experience in testing, evaluation, and development of fuel cell powertrains.
  • Working-level experience using data acquisition systems such as Panel 4, CAN data logger, etc., with the ability to analyze and interpret complex data sets.
  • Certified and working-level experience using Swagelok components, with a strong understanding of fluid systems and componentry.
  • Knowledge and working-level experience with Toyota hybrid, electric, or heavy-duty fuel cell systems, with a commitment to staying up-to-date with the latest technologies and innovations.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL A) with an excellent driving record, demonstrating a commitment to safety and responsible vehicle operation.

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Working-level understanding and application of Toyota policies and procedures related to on-road testing, with experience in test planning, execution, and evaluation.
  • Working-level understanding of Toyota problem-solving methodology, either through Quality Circles or completion of a Toyota Business Practice (TBP), with a commitment to continuous improvement and lean principles.

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits

We offer a competitive compensation package, including a salary range of $80,700.00 - $131,200.00 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Our benefits package includes:
