Job Summary

As the Senior Manager of our Enterprise Monitoring team, you'll be responsible for implementing End-to-End Observability across our Digital Transformation (DT) applications, providing visibility and insights into our hybrid IT environment. You'll lead the development and analysis of Observability Tools/Solutions selection strategies, collaborate with our Enterprise Architecture team to design and implement new Enterprise Observability Platforms/Frameworks, and build technical talent within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Make recommendations to enhance our Platform Architecture and ensure alignment with our enterprise business strategy.
  • Lead the development and analysis of Observability Tools/Solutions selection strategies, including RFP development, vendor evaluation, and SaaS solution assessment (e.g., Dynatrace, Datadog, New Relic).
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture and other stakeholders to design and implement new Enterprise Observability Platforms/Frameworks, establishing Logging and Monitoring Standards consistent with DT Tech Ops SLOs and SLAs.
  • Build technical talent within the organization through training, hiring, and engaging professional services to support our new Observability platform.
  • Lead, motivate, mentor, and appraise your team to meet or exceed organizational performance goals and individual development goals.
  • Provide technical expertise across business functions, identifying opportunities to improve business processes via new technologies.
  • Support Amtrak's company-wide Sustainability Program, Diversity & Inclusion initiatives, and our core values.
  • Occasionally work outside normal business hours as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent, plus 11+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Proven experience implementing Observability solutions using SaaS platforms in enterprise-scale Hybrid IT Infrastructure, Platforms, and Applications, with multi-region deployments and cross-region disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Proven track record in building and managing IT Development and Operations teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in writing SOWs and RFPs.
  • Working knowledge of at least one Observability tool (e.g., AppDynamics, ELK, Datadog, Dynatrace, New Relic).
  • Working knowledge of Confluent/AWS MSK, AWS, and Azure cloud-native monitoring tools.
  • Ability to collaborate with Infra/Network/Application teams to collect monitoring requirements and implement optimized solutions.
  • Experience in programming or scripting languages is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • Working experience utilizing the ITIL Framework for Incident, Change, Problem, and Release Management.
  • Training or project delivery experience using SAFe.
