About Slack and the Webapp Infra Team
Slack is the heartbeat of modern workplaces, enabling millions of users to stay connected and productive. As a critical component of this ecosystem, the Webapp Infra (WIN) team ensures that our platform remains performant, reliable, and secure. Within WIN, the Core Libraries sub-team is responsible for maintaining and developing the WebApp API, language tooling, and other essential libraries that underpin our infrastructure. As a Staff Software Engineer on this team, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Slack's product and infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with peers across Engineering to identify, triage, and resolve complex production issues, focusing on performance, memory, and stability.
 - Design, develop, and maintain client libraries that enable backend engineers to access the full capabilities of our Webapp platform.
 - Work closely with the Webapp Hack Language static analysis tooling, health score tooling, legacy code migration, and metadata insights to drive improvements.
 - Own the direction and growth of the Webapp standard libraries and Core Service client, encompassing encryption, storage, caching, and other critical features.
 - Engage with Webapp customers, including product developers, to understand their challenges and develop best practices, dev advocacy, and NPS surveys to drive user-focused progress.
 - Maintain and enhance the technical design proposals, ensuring clarity, simplicity, and reliability in our systems.
 - Mentor and coach engineers, sharing knowledge and expertise to foster growth and development.
 
Essential Qualifications:
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience.
 - Strong Computer Science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, programming languages, operating systems, and distributed systems.
 - 7-10 years of experience building large-scale systems, with a proven track record of improving performance and reliability.
 - Expertise with Linux, including common debugging and profiling tools.
 - Experience with Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and deploying code to live production environments.
 - Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
 - A passion for mentoring and coaching engineers, with a focus on sharing feedback and driving growth.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience leading codebases or open-source software teams.
 - A track record of dev advocacy and user-focused progress.
 - Experience building, profiling, and debugging systems software, such as language runtimes, databases, web servers, virtual machines, and operating systems.
 - Built a team from the ground up, establishing team norms and durable feedback loops.

For Colorado-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $175,600 to $254,700. Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, benefits.
