Key Responsibilities
As a Student Development Specialist IV, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic and personal development of our students. Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating major Student Affairs programs and events, such as orientation, white coat ceremony, awards ceremony, and commencement.
- Securing venues and vendors, managing contract negotiations for large events, and overseeing the budget and expenditures for major programs and events.
- Advising students on student-sponsored activities and providing individual and group advising, making referrals to resource providers as needed.
- Serving as a liaison between students, faculty, and administration, and fostering collaborative relationships to support student success.
- Interpreting and communicating student-related university and school policies and procedures to meet university and school requirements and guidelines.
- Leading efforts focusing on leadership development, problem-solving, program/activity planning, facilitation, and assessment.
- Supervising a Program Coordinator I, including hiring, training, facilitating meetings, preparing performance evaluations, and providing developmental feedback.
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Master's degree in student affairs, counseling, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least five years of experience in student affairs or a related specialty area.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Experience in higher education or a professional school setting within student affairs or a related specialty area.
- Event management and outreach experience.
- Experience conducting needs assessments and using results to guide programming and activities.
- Demonstrated professional maturity, leadership, and decision-making abilities.
- CPR certification.
