About the Role: Substitute Teacher

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Substitute Teacher to join our team at Pacific Oaks Children's School. As a Substitute Teacher, you will play a vital role in ensuring the continuity and quality of our educational programs. Key Responsibilities

  • Take direction from lead teachers and maintain a similar style and tone of interaction with children, ensuring a cohesive learning environment.
  • Assist in setting up, managing, and cleaning the physical classroom and outdoor spaces as requested, promoting a safe and organized environment.
  • Supervise children to ensure their safety and appropriate use of equipment, intervening when necessary to prevent accidents.
  • Assist with diapering and/or toileting children, maintaining hygiene and care standards.
  • Facilitate problem-solving, conflict resolution, and redirect behavior in a kind and developmentally appropriate manner, as needed, to foster social and emotional learning.
  • Demonstrate respect for children, parents, and colleagues, embodying our core values of Respect, Diversity, Social Justice, and Inclusion.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications:

  • Be at least 18 years of age with a minimum of a high school diploma.
  • Possess a minimum of 12 Early Childhood Education units, demonstrating your foundational knowledge in early childhood education.
  • Have prior experience working with young children in a school program, showcasing your ability to engage and support their development.
  • Have successfully completed a fingerprint and background check, ensuring the safety and security of our children.
  • Be physically capable of participating effectively in the program, including running, walking, bending, climbing, seeing up close and at a distance, sitting on the floor with children, lifting up to 40 pounds, and reaching children quickly in emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications

While not mandatory, the following qualifications are highly valued:

  • Additional education or training in early childhood education or a related field.
  • Experience with anti-bias education, emergent curriculum, or peaceful conflict resolution, aligning with our pioneering approaches.
  • Previous experience as a substitute teacher or in a similar role within an educational setting.
