As a Data Center Operations Specialist, you'll be part of our Technology Services team, which is responsible for powering the behind-the-scenes infrastructure that makes Target's operations run smoothly.
Job Summary: Key Responsibilities
As a Data Center Operations Specialist, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our data centers. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Installing and Maintaining Hardware: Work closely with our engineering team to ensure that new equipment is properly specified and installed correctly. Perform routine maintenance and repairs to ensure that our data center infrastructure is running at peak efficiency.
 - Monitoring Building Systems: Use SCADA, ALC, and other applications to monitor our data center systems and ensure they're operating within designated parameters. Identify and troubleshoot issues before they become major problems.
 - Utilizing Team-Specific Applications: Develop expertise in our team-specific applications, such as ALC and Wonderware, and ensure they're properly maintained and upgraded as needed.
 - Responding to Escalations: Follow established escalation processes and serve as a subject matter expert for critical equipment and system issues.
 - Taking Ownership of Critical Systems: Assume ownership of one of our critical power or cooling systems and ensure it's operating at peak efficiency. Maintain all relevant documentation and communicate improvements or issues to the relevant stakeholders.
 - Training and Development: Participate in on-the-job and off-site training to enhance your skills and knowledge. Identify training needs and provide internal training and coaching to your colleagues.
 - Managing Vendors: Collaborate with our vendors to ensure that our data center equipment is properly maintained and repaired. Attend critical system preventive maintenance and repair activities whenever possible.
 - Troubleshooting Issues: Work with our vendors, Facilities, Raised Floor, and Engineering teams to resolve any electrical/mechanical system issues or problems.
 - Creating Methods of Procedure (MOPs): Collaborate with our Engineering and Facilities teams to develop MOPs for preventive and corrective maintenance.
 - Continuously Improving: Drive improvements in existing processes and procedures in collaboration with our Data Center Operations (DCO) teams, support partners, and vendors.
 
About You: Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- A High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
 - 4+ years of related experience in a data center or similar environment
 - Licensed Circuit Tester or strong mechanical certifications/qualifications
 - Working knowledge of data center mechanical equipment and its dependence on electrical systems
 - Strong verbal and written communication skills
 - Ability to mentor and coach colleagues
 - Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with all levels within the organization
 - Adaptability to changing needs and tasks to meet client service levels
 - Ability to work under pressure and time constraints, with a strong sense of urgency and ownership
 - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
 - Moderate to advanced PC skills, with the ability to work on third-party software
 
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Apprentice Circuit Tester certification
 - Industrial/Trade school courses
 - Electrical trade school degree
