About the Role

The Temporary Part-Time Finance Transaction Specialist will play a crucial role in our Finance team, ensuring the efficient processing of financial transactions and maintaining the highest standards of data quality and confidentiality. This part-time position, spanning 19 hours a week over a six-month period from April to October, offers an excellent opportunity for an organized and detail-oriented individual to work in a dynamic environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of financial tasks, including preparing daily advance deposits, processing credit card transactions, and maintaining accurate records within our financial systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare daily advance deposits, including manual deposits for international checks and cash donations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial regulations.
  • Sort and distribute the Lab's incoming mail on a daily basis, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines and maintain workflow efficiency.
  • Process credit card payments against Accounts Receivable balances for various types of invoices, such as advertising and subscription services, ensuring timely and accurate transaction processing.
  • Prepare and submit transactional documentation to record Membership revenue and other receivable payments, maintaining up-to-date and accurate financial records.
  • Acquire and compile necessary supporting documentation daily for transactions related to Membership revenue streams, ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial data.
  • Initiate adjustments for Membership within the Raisers Edge system for chargebacks and foreign currency exchange rates, and update gift fund codes as needed, demonstrating a proactive approach to financial management.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Ability to multi-task, problem-solve, and work independently, with a strong focus on attention to detail and commitment to ensuring data quality and efficiency of processes.
  • Knowledge of software applications such as MS Excel and Word, and experience with financial systems, preferably Kuali Financial Systems.
  • Proven accuracy in working with a high volume of credit card, cash, and check transactions, with a strong understanding of financial principles and practices.
  • Possess strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple objectives and assist in meeting unit goals, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people, both internally and externally, promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • High School Diploma and 1-2 years of accounting experience, with a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development in finance and related fields.

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience in a related field, such as finance, accounting, or business administration.
  • Additional 1 year of accounting and financial experience, preferably in a similar role or industry, demonstrating a deeper understanding of financial principles and practices.
  • Experience with Cornell policies and procedures in the areas of accounting and accounts payable, with knowledge of Cornell's online systems, including Kuali Financial Systems, ID&R, and Outlook.

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits
