Job Summary

In this role, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, directing, and leading industrialization-related activities within the supply chain group. Your primary focus will be on creating, implementing, and improving provider planning and execution of part manufacturing and assembly strategies, as well as quality control processes. You will work closely with various internal and external teams, including Tesla's Buying, Quality, and Design groups, to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, direct, and lead industrialization-related activities within the supply chain group
  • Create, implement, and improve provider planning and execution of part manufacturing and assembly strategies, as well as quality control processes
  • Provide leadership for New Product Introduction (NPI) at providers
  • Lead provider improvements in flexibility, cost, and quality
  • Work with communication and explanation of technical requirements among providers and Tesla's Buying, Quality, and Design groups
  • Conduct provider audits to ensure their ability to meet part performance, delivery, and reliability expectations
  • Collaborate with Tesla's Design, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to determine the best performance specifications and provider metrics
  • Drive provider manufacturing process improvements, launch preparations for new products and design changes, and lead continuous improvement activities using Lean Manufacturing and First Principles methodologies
  • Guide providers in developing robust processes and methodologies to advance efficient and consistent production of high-quality products
  • Approve provider corrective actions, including design and/or process changes, to ensure they are robust, sustainable, and implemented for comparable expected outcomes across manufacturing lines and providers
  • Provide feedback on new or alternative materials for improved design, manufacturability, or cost reduction
  • Participate in provider DFM audits, guide providers in effective utilization of poke-yokes, best practices for manufacturing, testing, and inspection, and proper tools or assembly equipment to use

Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a strong educational background and relevant work experience. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Science, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent experience and expertise
  • Experience in Quality Systems, including PPAP/APQP processes
  • A high-level working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and Lean Manufacturing, and the ability to apply these skills to improve quality, capacity, and reduce cost
  • A high-level working knowledge of tooling management and maintenance, high-volume forming production processes, metallization and painting of formed surfaces, and ownership for part life-cycle from raw material approval through final inspection
  • Proven leadership capabilities, with experience managing safety-critical parts and leading cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to define and execute a project using project management methodologies
  • A strong technical ability to write and a capacity to explain complex issues in a concise and straightforward manner, with familiarity with SPC and data analysis
