Since 1971, Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided the highest quality of behavioral health services to residents of the cities of Hampton and Newport News, Virginia, offering a comprehensive array of programs for both children and adults living with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders.

As a Part-Time Clinical Assistant at the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of outpatient mental and behavioral health treatment. Your responsibilities include reviewing, correcting, and monitoring clinical documentation to ensure compliance with established organizational and managed care policies. You will assist clinical staff in re-engaging clients in treatment while providing direct support to outpatient customers throughout the assessment process.

This includes completing pre-registrations, taking histories, reviewing clinical documentation, and determining the appropriate servicing clinician. Additionally, you will interpret insurance coverage, schedule appointments, and help customers overcome barriers that may hinder their attendance. In partnership with Hampton City Schools, our School-Based Outpatient Therapy services are designed to benefit students identified by HCS, making this position both rewarding and impactful within the community.

To excel as a Part-Time Clinical Assistant at the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, candidates must possess strong analytical skills and attention to detail to effectively review and correct clinical documentation of outpatient mental and behavioral health treatment. A Bachelor's degree in Human Services, alongside six months of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree in a medical specialty, Human Services, or Business with one year of experience is required. Alternatively, candidates with three years of specialized work experience will also be considered.

Familiarity with clinical documentation software tools is essential, as is a commitment to delivering empathetic support to clients. Strong communication skills will enable you to effectively engage with both clinical staff and outpatient customers, facilitating a smooth assessment and treatment process. Being proactive in problem-solving and possessing the ability to navigate barriers will further enhance your success in this impactful role.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services and 6 months of experience working with clinical documentation OR Associates Degree in a medical specialty such as Human Services or Business and one year experience in working with clinical documentation OR three (3) years of specialized work experience.
