Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Execute complete chip design from netlist to tapeout, ensuring that all design requirements are met and that the final product meets Apple's high standards for quality and performance.
• Collaborate with the FE team to understand chip architecture and drive physical design perspectives throughout the design cycle.
• Work with the physical design team to drive methodologies and "best practices" to optimize physical design work, consider rules and constraints, drive performance, and track progress.
• Be a point of contact for placement and routing, driving the work among placement and routing teams, setting goals and objectives, planning short and long-term work, and resolving conflicts between different areas such as top, STA, block placement, and routing.
• Resolve design and flow issues related to physical design, identify potential problems, and drive performance improvements.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong background in physical design engineering, with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as electrical engineering, computer science, or a related discipline. You will also need to have at least 3+ years of significant industry experience in SoC physical design, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality results and driving innovation in your work.

Essential Skills and Competencies

• Proficiency in section or block-level P&R execution, including floorplanning, clock and power assignment, timing closure, physical and electrical verification.
• Experience with Top Level, although not required, is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of physical design development and analysis flows and methodologies.
• Proven ability to meet tight design and delivery schedules, with a strong focus on quality and performance.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Experience with industry-standard tools, understanding their capabilities and limitations.
• Experience with large SOC designs (>20M gates) with frequencies over 1GHz.
