Pollinator Conservation Specialist and NRCS Partner Biologist, Mid-Atlantic Region
About the position
Responsibilities
• Assist NRCS conservation planners in developing conservation plans for pollinator and beneficial insect habitat.
• Provide technical assistance and advice on habitat restoration projects.
• Maintain and expand partnerships with urban agriculture producers and community gardens.
• Design and present workshops on pollinator conservation.
• Create and disseminate technical guides on habitat planning and restoration.
• Administer the annual Habitat Kit program, including budgeting and plant distribution logistics.
• Develop relationships with native plant nurseries for habitat restoration projects.
• Respond to information requests from various stakeholders.
• Maintain communication with the remotely based Supervisor.
Requirements
• Knowledge of the ecology of bees, butterflies, and beneficial insects.
• Experience in wildlife habitat planning and management in Mid-Atlantic landscapes.
• Understanding of regional farming systems and pesticide use.
• Ability to communicate complex scientific information effectively.
• Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated history of collaborative work with diverse partners.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
Nice-to-haves
• Understanding of rural and urban farming systems and their challenges.
• Experience in a multicultural workplace.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills, especially in Spanish.
• Experience with USDA NRCS conservation planning process.
• Knowledge of USDA Farm Bill conservation programs.
• Pesticide applicators license or training.
• Certified Crop Advisor status.
• NRCS certified Technical Service Provider.
