As a Distinguished Engineer - Object Storage PaaS - Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure Automation, you'll be responsible for architecting, designing, and implementing a cloud-agnostic object storage services using technologies like Ceph, MinIO, or similar. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration across AWS, Azure, GCP, and our private cloud within our on-premises data centers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Storage Architecture and Design: Design and architect storage solutions based on business requirements, evaluating and implementing storage infrastructure components (object, block, file storage), and optimizing storage performance, scalability, and availability.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Development: Develop and champion IaC best practices, including modular design, version control, automated testing, and security considerations, fostering a culture of quality and efficiency.
  • CI/CD and Automation: Orchestrate storage provisioning and configuration management through CI/CD pipelines, promoting automation and self-service capabilities for accelerated development and deployment cycles.
  • Collaboration and Integration: Collaborate closely with security, operations, development, networking, SD-WAN, and data center engineering teams to ensure smooth integration of IaC solutions with existing infrastructure and processes.
  • Site Reliability Engineering (SRE): Partner with SRE to implement monitoring, alerting, and automation for infrastructure reliability, scalability, and cost-efficiency, contributing to a highly available and performant hybrid cloud environment.
  • Storage Services Adoption: Champion Storage Services adoption across the organization, providing training and support to engineers, while continuously evaluating and integrating emerging IaC technologies to maintain GEICO's technological edge.
  • Open-Source Contributions: Contribute to the open-source Storage & IaC community and promote GEICO's thought leadership in cloud infrastructure automation.

Essential Qualifications

  • Expert-level IaC skills: Deep understanding and extensive experience with Operating large scale Cloud Services, Storage Services, tools, including advanced features and module development.
  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Go, C++, or Rust for scripting, automation, and tooling development.
  • Linux OS Fundamentals: Understanding of Linux operating systems, system administration, shell scripting, and package management.
  • Multi-cloud expertise: Proven ability to design and manage infrastructure across AWS, Azure, GCP, and private cloud environments, understanding the nuances of each platform.
  • Hybrid cloud architecture: Solid grasp of hybrid cloud networking, security, and data management challenges, with the ability to design and implement solutions that address these complexities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Custom IaC provider design and implementation strategy: Experience in designing and implementing custom IaC providers.
  • Containerization and orchestration: Familiarity with container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes, and their integration with IaC tools.
  • Networking and data center technologies: Understanding of data center infrastructure, networking concepts (VPC, VPN, SD-WAN), and hardware provisioning.
  • SRE principles and practices: Familiarity with SRE concepts like SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, and experience with tools for monitoring, alerting, and incident response.

Experience and Career Growth

We're looking for a seasoned professional with 12+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, DevOps, or related fields, including 8+ years of hands-on experience designing, building, and managing infrastructure using IaC tools and methodologies. You'll have 6+ years of experience working with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and private cloud technologies (OpenStack, VMware), as well as 4+ years of experience leading and mentoring technical teams.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $150,000 - $300,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Our Total Rewards Program includes:
