About the Role

This is a full-time, remote opportunity with Amazon, offering a competitive salary of $30-$40 per hour. As a Senior Systems Development Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the design and development of complex cloud-based systems, driving innovation, and ensuring the highest levels of security, automation, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead design and development efforts for a team with a security, scalability, and performance mindset, utilizing knowledge of development and service delivery best practices.
• Drive innovation on top of the AWS environment, embracing the latest technologies and trends.
• Instill a culture that drives DevOps, holds a high bar with code reviews, drives automation efforts to empower, and eliminates barriers for your team.
• Translate complex functional and technical requirements into detailed architecture and design.
• Provide active leadership for your team, working with others in the engineering group to direct daily development activities, driving architecture decisions, participating in designs, planning reviews, and execution.
• Build services that can scale across six continents for millions of Amazonians around the world.
• Deliver quality features on-time and on-budget, plans and execution against project plans and delivery responsibilities.

A Day in the Life

As a Senior Systems Development Engineer in the Analysis and Remote Compute team, you will be responsible for supporting and developing our on-premise process stage services. On a given day, you may:

• Participate in team design meetings, stand-ups, or on-call.
• Design components and write code to solve business problems for our services.
• Work directly with our internal Amazon clients to support service deployment at Amazon offices.

Essential Capabilities

• 6+ years of programming with at least one modern language like C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, or Ruby experience.
• 6+ years of non-temporary job professional programming development experience.
• 4+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
• Experience driving the design, construction, and deployment of complex and performant (solid and scalable) software solutions in production.
• Understanding of system automation through code in an API-enabled environment.

Preferred Capabilities

• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, verification, and live site operations.
• Experience automating and designing systems using Desired State Configuration (DSC).
• Experience with PowerShell scripting language.
• Experience supporting and automating large Windows Server installations.
