Job Summary
As an SSS Extra Help Peer Tutor, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic success of our students. You will work closely with the Student Support Services Program to provide individualized guidance and support to students, helping them to clarify and reinforce course content, assignments, and materials. Your goal will be to empower students to take ownership of their learning, develop good study skills, and achieve their academic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Clarify and reinforce course content, assignments, and materials for students
- Assess, assist, and encourage students in the learning process
- Assist lab teachers with developing students' skills
- Assist with teaching supplementary lessons
- Identify specific needs of each student and provide tailored support
- Reinforce good study skill methods and promote academic success
Qualifications and Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following qualifications:
- Enrolled as a student at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff with an overall GPA of 3.00 or higher
- Earned at least a B+ or higher in the course(s) you will be tutoring
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to relate to people from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds
- Formal education equivalent of a high school diploma
Preferred qualifications include:
- Previous tutoring or teaching experience
- Strong knowledge of the subject area(s) you will be tutoring
- Experience working with diverse student populations
