About the Role

The Teacher III - Transitions Specialist will be responsible for providing instruction, assessing curriculum, and developing new curriculum to meet the needs of program participants. This role involves working closely with participants, colleagues, and community partners to promote the mission and vision of Heartland Alliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in working with refugee and resettlement populations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a remote/hybrid environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction and assesses curriculum to meet program objectives and participant needs.
  • Develops new curriculum and recruitment techniques to attract program participants.
  • Assesses participant needs and provides referrals to additional service providers.
  • Records individual and group progress, compiles statistics, and prepares reports for supervisors.
  • Provides one-on-one guidance to participants transitioning into higher education or career pathways.
  • Monitors participant success and tracks transition outcomes.
  • Establishes and maintains partnerships with community-based organizations, educational institutions, and adult education entities.
  • Develops resources to support program objectives and provides financial assistance to participants as needed.
  • Participates in staff meetings, in-service training, and organization activities.
  • Collaborates with colleagues across teams to support participant engagement.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience working with refugee and resettlement populations.
  • Fluency in a second language may be required depending on funder or regulatory agency mandates.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to speak effectively before groups.
  • Strong networking, convening, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange, and Windows operating systems.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are highly preferred:

  • Experience in higher education or career counseling.
  • Relevant lived experience in refugee resettlement or forced migration.
  • Fluency in multiple languages.
