About the Division of Youth Services

The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides a continuum of residential and non-residential services to youth involved in the juvenile justice system. Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive, and rehabilitative environment that fosters positive change and helps youth develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed. With a strong commitment to collaboration and community engagement, DYS operates secure facilities, administers juvenile parole services, and contracts with private service providers to deliver a range of programs and services.

Job Summary

As a Substitute Teacher, Paraprofessional at Mount View Youth Services Center, you'll provide critical support to our education team by delivering substitute teaching services, proctoring tests, and performing data entry duties. Your expertise and compassion will help create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes academic achievement and personal growth among our youth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guest Classroom Teacher: Implement lesson plans, maintain a safe and respectful classroom environment, and provide individualized support to students as needed.
  • Test Proctoring: Administer standardized tests, including MAP, STAR, and GED tests, and ensure the integrity of the testing process.
  • Scheduling and Results Monitoring: Create and manage testing schedules, track test results, and communicate with teachers, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Educational Assessment and Data Entry: Enter testing data into spreadsheets, forms, and tools, and assist with data analysis and reporting.
  • Classroom Support and Program Assistant Support: Provide additional support to teachers and students, assist with guided work and computer-based activities, and help with special education coordination and MTSS interventions.

Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field of study.
  • Alternative: Two years of study at an accredited institution (48 semester hours) or tutoring knowledge and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics through a formal state or local academic assessment (e.g., ACT WorkKeys), with a high school diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Substitute teaching license.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Sheets.
  • Self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be 21 years old or older.
  • No felony convictions and no violent history.
  • Pass Colorado Bureau of Investigations and Federal Bureau of Investigations background checks.
  • Complete Escape and Evade training and DYS Pre-service Training Academy, Field Training Program (FTO), and mandatory annual training.
