At Scientific Adventures for Girls (SAfG), we're on a mission to revolutionize the way girls engage with STEM from an early age. Our programs are designed to break down barriers, spark curiosity, and build lasting enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering, and math. We're seeking a passionate and dedicated Volunteer Coordinator/Teaching Assistant to be part of our dynamic team and play a vital role in shaping the future of STEM for young girls.

The Opportunity

As a Volunteer Coordinator & Teaching Assistant, you'll have the unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on the lives of young girls, empowering them to pursue their passions in STEM. You'll be part of a vibrant and collaborative team, working together to create a more inclusive and diverse STEM community.

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Coordinator (40%)

  • Champion our mission by recruiting, screening, and onboarding volunteers, including Female STEM Role Models, Volunteer Teaching Assistants, STEM Kitting Volunteers, and STEM Event Volunteers.
  • Craft a monthly volunteer newsletter to keep volunteers engaged and informed.
  • Nurture a sense of community on our volunteer platform, VolunteerLocal, and coordinate volunteer experiences with staff.
  • Attend events to share our vision and enlist passionate volunteers.

Teaching Assistant (50%)

  • Maintain accurate attendance records and ensure smooth communication with the team.
  • Master the facilitator guide for each project, aligning with the Head Teacher to provide effective classroom support.
  • Lead Social Emotional Learning components during lessons.
  • Build meaningful relationships with students, focusing on their personal growth and strengths.
  • Cultivate the scientist mindset among young learners in alignment with SAfG's mission.

Additional Support (10%)

  • Provide administrative assistance when needed, contributing to organizational events and planning.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues to fulfill assigned tasks and drive success.

Qualifications & Skills

To excel in this role, you'll need:

  • A dedication to uplifting girls in STEM and a passion for nonprofit missions.
  • Enthusiasm for working as a team member, with strong analytical skills and creativity.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment, prioritizing among competing pressing issues.
  • Ability to manage expectations and meet deadlines in a timely and effective manner.
  • Ability to maintain an excellent work ethic, a high level of energy, and enthusiasm.

For the Volunteer Coordinator role, you'll need:

  • 2+ years of professional experience.
  • Excellent communication, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable and successful networking with industry partners.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.

For the Teaching Assistant role, you'll need:

  • Experience working with children.
  • The ability to take initiative.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable vehicle.

Work Environment & Culture

We're a hybrid organization, offering a flexible work arrangement that blends in-person and remote work. As a Volunteer Coordinator & Teaching Assistant, you'll work 3 days in the office and 2 days remotely, with some after-school hours spent in the classroom. Our core work hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 - 5:30.
