This summer, we're offering a unique opportunity for students to join our Inspire Impact team as an Impact Intern and be at the forefront of driving sustainability initiatives. As an Impact Intern, you'll be working closely with our team to advance our understanding of corporate sustainability, from strategy planning to implementing projects that reduce energy consumption and minimize food waste in our restaurants.
About the Role
As an Impact Intern with Workwarp, you'll have the chance to make a positive impact through meaningful research and trend analysis, as well as hands-on experience developing proposals and deploying sustainability programs. Throughout this internship, you'll gain exposure to Impact at a major restaurant brand, equipping you with the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue a career in sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and analyze sustainability reports and commitments from peer companies to identify best practices and areas for improvement.
- Monitor internal sustainability performance data, including GHG emissions, energy or water consumption, and food waste donations, and propose intervention projects to drive positive change.
- Actively participate in cross-functional meetings to understand the collaboration between Impact and other teams, such as Supply Chain, Operations, and Government Affairs.
- Track ESG regulation and draft briefings on changes or updates to ensure compliance and stay ahead of industry trends.
- Communicate research learnings or recommendations to internal team members via email, virtual meetings, or in-person presentations (with support from Manager).
- Provide flexible assistance to support current Impact tasks or projects, demonstrating your adaptability and willingness to learn.
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you'll need to meet the following essential qualifications:
- Currently working towards a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, sustainable business, supply chain management, or a related discipline.
- Career or coursework experience with at least one of the following topics: energy efficiency, food waste, responsible sourcing, emissions reduction, corporate social responsibility, environmental law, or policy.
- Understanding of carbon accounting principles and GHG emissions reporting frameworks.
- Ability to assess sustainability projects through a business case lens, including quantifying benefits, risks, and return on investment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to efficiently analyze and summarize large volumes of quantitative and qualitative data.
- A curious and eager learner, with a passion for sustainability and a desire to make a positive impact.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will make you a more competitive candidate:
- Previous internship or work experience in a sustainability-related field.
- Knowledge of sustainability reporting frameworks, such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) or the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB).
- Experience with data analysis and visualization tools, such as Excel, Tableau, or Power BI.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to various stakeholders.
