Experienced Early Literacy Tutor for TK-2nd Grade Students – Support Early Reading Development and Academic Success in a Dynamic Educational Environment
Introduction to Reach Academy Elementary and the Role
Reach Academy Elementary, part of the Oakland Unified School District, is dedicated to providing a comprehensive and supportive educational environment that fosters academic excellence, creativity, and social growth. We are currently seeking an experienced and passionate Early Literacy Tutor to join our team, focusing on developing and improving the early literacy skills of our TK-2nd grade students. Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing intentional, data-driven literacy instruction and intervention to improve the reading skills of our TK-2nd grade students. Key responsibilities include:
- Attending Sensitivity, Encouragement, Education, Development through Doing and Self-Image Support (SEEDS) of Early Literacy Training and/or Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words (SIPPS) and ongoing Early Literacy Tutor trainings throughout the year.
 - Collaborating with the Lead Teacher Coach and/or Principal to set the instructional schedule, report student progress, and make data-informed modifications frequently.
 - Implementing all elements of research-based targeted interventions daily with students to support small group differentiated instruction.
 - Assessing child outcomes and progress using fall, winter, and spring benchmark assessments and ongoing progress monitoring assessments.
 - Using scripted early literacy interventions with identified children in a one-on-one and/or small group setting daily, achieving a high degree of fidelity to each scripted intervention.
 - Participating in literacy coaching sessions to review student progress, plan, problem-solve, and set goals, incorporating constructive feedback based on observations.
 - Recording student and program data completely and accurately in an online database and/or Excel document on a weekly basis.
 
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess the following essential qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
 - Strong interest in education, specifically helping children develop early language and literacy skills.
 - Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
 - Computer skills, including the ability to navigate and use online database systems and email daily.
 - Energetic, results-oriented, student-focused style, coupled with strong planning and time management skills.
 - Must be 18 years old or older.
 
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
- College coursework, college degree, or equivalent work experience or strong community experience.
 - Experience working with young children, preferably in an early childhood setting.
 - Ability to attend the 4-day TK SEEDS of Early Learning training and/or SIPPS Training, as designated by Early Literacy Coaches.
 - Potential tutors should possess patience, a positive attitude, adaptability/flexibility, a sense of humor, and the ability to relate to diverse groups of people and sustain relationships/rapport.
 - Non-judgmental and valid California Driver's License, if applicable.

- Strong knowledge of early literacy strategies and techniques.
 - Ability to build and maintain quality working relationships with students, coaches, school administrators, and parents and program staff.
 - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
 - Ability to work separately with a child within a larger context of child/tutor groups and keep tutoring sessions lively and dynamic.
 - Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
 - Ability to maintain confidentiality about students and maintain professional conduct at all times.
