Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated FRI Teaching Specialist to join our team in the College of Natural Sciences. As a FRI Teaching Specialist, you will play a crucial role in providing instructional support for undergraduate courses in the Freshman Research Initiative. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop instructional materials and teach relevant content and techniques to undergraduate students in the Freshman Research Initiative
  • Provide feedback to students regarding assignments and progress, both synchronously and asynchronously, to ensure they are meeting their full potential
  • Maintain lab operations, including equipment, purchasing, and lab safety/training, to ensure a safe and efficient working environment
  • Coordinate the activities of undergraduate mentors/course assistants to ensure a cohesive and effective team approach to teaching and learning
  • Participate in FRI program activities, including planning and organization of events, to contribute to the overall success of the program
  • Perform other related functions as assigned, including attending meetings, participating in professional development opportunities, and contributing to the development of new programs and initiatives

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as biology, chemistry, physics, or a related discipline
  • English proficiency, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Completed previous scientific course work or laboratory work in a related field, as applicable
  • Accuracy and attention to detail, with strong decision-making and critical thinking skills
  • Effective communication skills, including writing, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to students
  • Initiative and excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff
  • Problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to complex problems
