Job Summary
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Professional Tutor to provide academic support and mentorship to children in Palmdale, CA. As a part-time, seasonal tutor, you will work 10-15 hours per week, providing one-on-one and group tutoring sessions to students in reading and math. You will also be responsible for coordinating academic tutorials, training, and workshops, as well as maintaining records of student progress and providing feedback to parents and school staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one and group tutoring sessions to students in reading and math, tailored to their individual needs and learning styles.
- Coordinate academic tutorials, training, and workshops to support student learning and academic success.
- Develop and implement lesson plans with clear goals and objectives, aligned with the Boys & Girls Club National curriculum.
- Encourage students to take ownership of their learning, review their progress, and set goals for academic success.
- Collaborate with other staff members to support student learning and academic success.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, assessment results, and provide feedback to parents and school staff.
- Supervise students at all times, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Establish and maintain student forms and files as required.

- Facilitate Grant Required Activities and National Programs that promote academic success.
- Provide recognition to members through positive validations, healthy incentives, and affirmation on a regular basis.

- Attend and participate in Staff Trainings, essential to professional development and the success of Club programs.
- Follow all policies and procedures at all times, including the Club's Code of Conduct.
- Follow the direction given by the Program Coordinator to ensure site expectations are met.
- Must be a team player and a self-starter, with the ability to work well with diverse populations.
Communication
- Inform important and relevant site information in staff meetings and to members, co-workers, and supervisors.
- Listen to co-workers, parents, youth members, and community and other Boys & Girls Club affiliates.
- Present important and relevant site/member information to supervisors.
- Write and compose clear, concise, accurate written documentation and data reports as necessary.
Supervision & Safety
- Supervise up to 20 youth and keep members engaged and safe during program time.
- Provide sound and reasonable discipline to youth members at necessary times through written documentation.
- Practice and constantly be aware of safe practices like Crisis Management, Emergency Preparedness, CPR, and First Aid.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work space at all times.
Qualifications
Education/Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree from an accredited college or university or BA/BS preferred.
- Knowledge of tutoring practices and procedures.
- Instructional Aide Qualified (Paraprofessional Test Required).
- Enthusiasm and patience for working with children and passion about education.
- Excellent student interaction skills in 1:1 and small group settings.
- Open to new ways of teaching math and reading skills and working with children.
- Experience in structured tutoring environment or Elementary Education teaching certificate required.
- Knowledge of a wide range of mathematic subject areas and English subject area (Reading and Writing).
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- Maintain a high energy level and positive representation.
- Be comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
- Must be able to work in loud environments and communicate clearly.
- Stand or sit for four plus hours per day.
- Stoop, bend, climb, and walk frequently.
- Lift up to 40 pounds.
