Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Special Education Teaching Assistant to support our high school students with diverse needs. The successful candidate will work closely with our classroom teachers and building principals to provide instructional and non-instructional support to students. This is a remote opportunity with an immediate start, offering a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in meeting the needs of special education students in both instructional and non-instructional activities
  • Provide support to students with diverse needs, including those with physical, emotional, and cognitive disabilities
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance student engagement, motivation, and academic achievement
  • Collaborate with teachers to design and deliver individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of student progress and behavior
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of school-wide policies and procedures
  • Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and other stakeholders regarding student progress and needs

Essential Qualifications

  • Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or equivalent
  • Associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution
  • 60 semester hours of coursework from a regionally accredited institution
  • High school diploma or equivalent + 480 or higher on the ETS Parapro test
  • High school diploma or equivalent + 4 or higher on the ACT WorkKeys Applied Math and Workplace Documents
  • Current Illinois Short Term Approval (STA) - Paraprofessional (if applicable)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in special education or related field
  • Experience working with students with diverse needs
  • Knowledge of child guidance principles and practices
  • Experience with behavior management and positive reinforcement
  • Familiarity with classroom procedures and record keeping methods

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with children and adults
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • Physical ability to lift, move, and position students as needed
