Job Summary

As a Teaching Artist with The Leadership Program, you'll play a vital role in designing and delivering engaging, interactive programs that promote social-emotional learning, creativity, and academic achievement. You'll work independently to implement programming in some of NYC's most challenging public schools, serving as a mentor and positive role model for students. Key Responsibilities

  • Program Implementation: Work independently to implement programming in multiple NYC schools, adapting to diverse settings and student needs.
  • Mentorship & Role Modeling: Serve as a positive role model and mentor for students, promoting social-emotional learning and academic achievement.
  • Recruitment & Retention: Recruit and retain students as needed, building relationships with school staff and community members.
  • Methodology & Curriculum: Learn and utilize our unique student-centered approach, incorporating your background and expertise to plan and implement after-school programming.
  • Special Projects: Collaborate on special projects and activities with students, community members, and staff, promoting creativity and social responsibility.
  • Staff Meetings & Training: Attend staff meetings and training sessions, contributing to a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.
  • Logistics & Administration: Physically work in school communities and sites, set up spaces, and facilitate activities, as well as submit appropriate paperwork and enter data into our online database bi-weekly.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher: A degree in a relevant field, such as education, arts, or a related discipline.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years' experience working in NYC public schools or equivalent, with a strong track record of engaging students and promoting academic achievement.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Classroom Management: Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to create a safe, supportive learning environment.
  • Technological Capacity: Familiarity with virtual platforms, such as Zoom, Google Meet, etc., and the ability to provide virtual facilitation if needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in Arts or Education: A background in martial arts, athletics, multimedia, chess, dance, or a related field is highly valued.
  • Multilingual Candidates: Proficiency in languages such as Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Creole, or Bengali is a plus.
  • Social-Emotional Learning: Experience with Social-Emotional Learning frameworks and Anti-Racist Education is highly desirable.
  • Fingerprinting: Already fingerprinted through the State Department of Education or willingness to undergo the process.

Compensation & Benefits

We offer a competitive salary, with after-school rates starting at $130 for 3-hour in-person placements/residencies. As a part-time employee, you'll enjoy a range of benefits, including:
