Our Data Science Graduate Program, a component of the Department of Computer Science, offers a professionally focused, 48-credit curriculum leading to a Master of Data Science. Position Summary

The hired individual will be responsible for teaching graduate-level data science and computing courses in our on-campus and online programs. Key duties include:

  • Teaching six courses per year in a quarter-based system
  • Advising students and updating courses
  • Mentoring adjunct faculty
  • Participating in department activities, equity, diversity, and inclusivity efforts
  • Performing departmental and university service

These positions do not require research; instead, the focus is on excellence in teaching and mentoring.

Essential Functions

The successful applicant will have a passion for teaching and a demonstrated ability to teach data science courses effectively. This role demands strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with a diverse student body and faculty.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and teach graduate-level data science courses
  • Advise and mentor students in the data science program
  • Contribute to the development and updating of the data science curriculum
  • Participate in departmental and university-wide service, including equity, diversity, and inclusivity initiatives

Requirements and Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience
  • Evidence demonstrating potential for excellence in teaching
  • Interest in integrating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) into teaching and service

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience teaching a variety of data science courses using Python libraries
  • An applied background in one or more of the following: machine learning operations, neural network architectures, distributed computing, and natural language processing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, culturally responsive teaching methods and/or pedagogies
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related discipline

Compensation and Benefits
