Join the San José State University Team as a Library Community Service Officer San José State University is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a part-time Library Community Service Officer. As a key member of our library's security team, you will play a vital role in ensuring a safe and secure environment for patrons, staff, and facilities at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library. As a Library Community Service Officer, you will be an integral part of the library team, working to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all patrons. Key Responsibilities Encourage compliance with library policies and procedures Report suspected hazards and criminal behavior to the appropriate authorities Provide assistance to patrons and staff as requested, responding to a variety of situations and concerns Respond to alarms and other calls for service, taking a proactive approach to maintaining a safe and secure environment Write clear and concise police reports, documenting incidents and providing valuable insights for future improvements Monitor Closed Circuit Television surveillance systems, Integrated Security Systems, and Alarms, staying vigilant and responsive to potential security threats Operate Radio Base Station for Security Officers and UPD, ensuring effective communication and coordination Create a professional atmosphere that both comforts patrons and deters criminal activity, promoting a positive and inclusive library environment Essential Qualifications and Skills To succeed in this role, you will need to possess a unique combination of skills and qualifications, including: A High School Diploma or Equivalent, with a valid California Driver's License The ability to quickly learn and apply specific San José State University and City of San Jose rules and regulations Knowledge of or the ability to learn to use applicable public safety-related equipment and systems Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise reports Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a wide range of people The ability to act calmly and rationally in emergency situations, staying focused and composed under pressure The ability to monitor CCTV screens for extended periods, maintaining attention to detail and staying vigilant Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Six months of previous police/security/military law enforcement training and/or experience Library Security experience, with a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in this environment Customer Service experience, with a proven track record of providing exceptional service to diverse patrons Strong written communication skills, with the ability to craft clear and compelling reports and communications What We Offer As a part-time Library Community Service Officer at San José State University, you will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including: A competitive salary, with an anticipated hiring range of $2,199/month (Part-Time) A comprehensive benefits package typically worth 30-35% of your base salary Opportunities for career growth and professional development, with a commitment to supporting your ongoing education and training A dynamic and inclusive work environment, with a team dedicated to creating a welcoming and supportive community Work Environment and Company Culture As a Library Community Service Officer, you will work in a multi-story library building and the exterior walkways and access ways.
