About the Position

The Adjunct Faculty, Asian American Studies, will be responsible for teaching ASI 121, Asian American Studies, in accordance with the current program-approved course descriptions, outlines, textbooks, and syllabi. This involves preparing engaging lecture and lesson plans, teaching lecture and/or lab portions of the class, and responding to and grading student work. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Asian American arts and cultures, as well as the ability to effectively utilize academic software and technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach ASI 121, Asian American Studies, in accordance with current program-approved course descriptions, outlines, textbooks, and syllabi.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging lecture and lesson plans, and teach lecture and/or lab portions of the class.
  • Respond to and grade student work, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Utilize academic software and technologies, such as Canvas Course Management system and Power Point, to support instruction.
  • Create and distribute a comprehensive course syllabus, outlining course objectives, learning outcomes, attendance policies, and evaluation criteria.
  • Assess student learning and assign grades, maintaining accurate records and submitting grades electronically prior to deadlines.
  • Participate in college governance, attend required Adjunct meetings, and engage in departmental activities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of subject matter, updating course content as needed to reflect new developments and research.

Required Qualifications

To be considered for this Adjunct Faculty position, candidates must possess:

  • A Master's degree in any field, with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours of coursework in a discipline related to Asian American arts and cultures, such as literature, language, cultural/social history, religion, visual arts, performing arts, or philosophy.
  • The ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, gender identities, language groups, and abilities.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
  • Competency in technologies commonly used in college-level instruction.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Community College teaching experience, with a proven track record of student success and engagement.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English, with the ability to communicate effectively with students from diverse linguistic backgrounds.
