We're seeking an experienced Online Adjunct Instructor to teach Introduction to Critical Thinking, a course that is fundamental to our curriculum.
About the Role
As an Online Adjunct Instructor at Rasmussen University, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality education to our students. You will be responsible for teaching Introduction to Critical Thinking, a course that covers the rules of valid judging and reasoning, both inductive and deductive, in a traditional, language-centered context. You will help students develop their critical thinking skills, analyze formal and informal fallacies, and apply logical analysis to concrete problems.
Key Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively with students through feedback on their performance, and be available for questions and academic assistance via phone, email, and individual appointments.
 - Respond to Dean/University staff in a timely manner regarding performance, student issues/concerns, or items needed for faculty file/accreditation needs.
 - Exhibit professional behavior, language, and communication at all times.
 - Teach up to 3 work units per academic quarter, and participate in faculty meetings, programmatic meetings, and committee work as agreed upon by the Dean.
 - Complete a minimum of six (6) Rasmussen Educational Units (REUs) annually or two (2) REUs per quarter for each quarter you teach, between the combined areas of Teaching Development and Development in the Discipline.
 
Teaching Effectiveness
As an Online Adjunct Instructor, you will be expected to demonstrate teaching effectiveness in the following areas:
- Use effective teaching strategies and multiple teaching techniques to create a dynamic and active classroom environment.
 - Create high levels of student engagement through activities, community building, and student-centered learning, including the use of live classroom tools.
 - Demonstrate clarity, relevance, and connection of class session objectives to course performance objectives.
 - Use class time efficiently and effectively.
 
Subject Matter Expertise
As an expert in Critical Thinking, you will be expected to:
- Demonstrate mastery and ability to articulate and relate to students the subject matter.
 - Play an integral role in the development and implementation of curriculum and assessment for your area of expertise.
 
Student and University Support and Professionalism
As an Online Adjunct Instructor, you will be responsible for:
- Creating a classroom presence in support of students in collaboration with your Dean.
 - Providing student support and outreach through synchronous or asynchronous communication and meetings.
 - Attending faculty meetings, programmatic meetings, and committee work as agreed upon by the Dean.
 
Experience and Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you should have:
- A Master's degree in English, MFA with writing emphasis, Philosophy, Rhetoric, or Composition.
 - Teaching experience preferred (Minimum of 3 years' experience in the field of study).
 - Self-motivation, flexibility, and ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
 - Strong interpersonal skills to interact with students, leadership, and peers.
 - Excellent written communication and strong verbal communication skills in the English language.
 
Technical Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Regular access to a computer with Windows XP or greater and Microsoft Office 2010.
 - A reliable internet connection.
