Utah State University, a premier land-grant and space-grant institution, is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join the Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education department as an Online Teaching Assistant III for the ASL 3010 Course. As a part-time, remote position, this role offers the opportunity to work with students in an asynchronous online environment, providing support and guidance in American Sign Language (ASL) education.

The Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education department is part of the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services, offering undergraduate and graduate programs in audiology, deaf education, and speech-language pathology. Key Responsibilities

  • Grade expressive assignments using a provided rubric to guide feedback
  • Provide student support as assigned by the instructor, including synchronous Zoom review sessions
  • Meet with students and the teacher of record as needed, potentially during the day, evenings, and/or weekends
  • Utilize Canvas, the university's Learning Management System, to facilitate communication and course materials

Qualifications and Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must possess:

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Active involvement in the Deaf Community
  • Familiarity with digital recording
  • Ability to work with computers and use the Canvas Learning Management System
  • Strong interpersonal skills to provide a positive learning environment for students

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience teaching ASL
