Key Responsibilities
- Supporting Student Learning: Assist students individually or in small groups to introduce and/or reinforce learning concepts, curriculum, assignments, and/or lesson plans under the direction of a certified teacher.
- Adapting Classroom Activities: Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials to meet the diverse needs of students with special education needs.
- Implementing IEP Objectives: Collaborate with teachers to implement and meet Individualized Education Plan (IEP) objectives, and observe students to evaluate progress toward IEP objectives.
- Monitoring Student Behavior: Monitor and supervise students in various settings, including classrooms, playgrounds, and field trips, to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
- Providing Clerical Support: Assist teachers with clerical tasks, such as making copies, obtaining and organizing classroom materials, and maintaining records.
- Responding to Emergency Situations: Respond to emergency situations, such as injured students or fights, to resolve immediate safety concerns and/or direct to appropriate personnel for resolution.
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- No experience required, but experience working with school-age children or children with special needs is preferred
- Strong English language skills, both oral and written
- Basic math skills and interpersonal relations skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work effectively with students with diverse abilities
- Ability to promote and follow Board of Trustees policies, District policies, and building and department procedures
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual language skills
- Knowledge of child development stages
- First Aid certification
- Operating knowledge of personal computers and peripherals, as well as office productivity programs like Microsoft Office Suite
