About the Role

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Nonprofit CFO who shares our passion for the nonprofit sector and has a proven track record of leadership in supporting mission-based organizations. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with our accountants and controllers to deliver comprehensive accounting services to a diverse range of nonprofit clients. Your expertise will be pivotal in helping these organizations navigate their financial challenges and opportunities, ensuring they can continue to serve their local communities effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic oversight of the overall accounting function, including analysis of financial statements and counsel to the accounting team.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop and implement strategic plans, shifting their focus from day-to-day challenges to long-term success priorities.
  • Prepare and deliver quarterly Strategic Business Updates to clients, ensuring they are well-informed about their financial performance and future outlook.
  • Develop annual operating plans and conduct ongoing analysis of variances from planned outcomes, providing actionable insights for improvement.
  • Create long-range cash forecasts to help clients anticipate and prepare for future financial needs and challenges.
  • Manage multiple client relationships, serving as a proactive liaison with their bankers, attorneys, investors, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and provide financial modeling to help clients understand and plan for the impact of future events or decisions, enabling informed decision-making.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the executive management team, attending board meetings as requested by clients and providing financial expertise and guidance.
  • Offer financial coaching to clients' leadership teams, empowering them to make informed financial decisions that align with their strategic objectives.
  • Assist clients with contract negotiations, fostering strong relationships and evaluating terms to minimize risks and maximize benefits.
  • Evaluate the terms of debt instruments, comparing competing offers and negotiating for the best possible terms on behalf of clients.
  • Assess key performance indicators (KPIs) and identify opportunities and risks for the organization, providing strategic recommendations for improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by clients or team members, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to delivering exceptional service.

Requirements for Success

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • Proven leadership experience within nonprofit organizations, with a deep understanding of their unique challenges and opportunities.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration; a CPA certification is highly desirable but not essential.
  • Strong knowledge of bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), with the ability to apply this knowledge in a nonprofit context.
  • A positive and enthusiastic approach to work and life, with a passion for supporting mission-driven organizations.
  • Enjoyment of working with multiple clients, fostering strong relationships, mentoring others, and processing large amounts of financial information.
