We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level GIS Technician to join our team in a primarily remote role with occasional on-site visits to Suitland, MD. As an Entry-Level GIS Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and accuracy of geographic data used for a wide range of applications, from urban planning to emergency response. Key Responsibilities Enhance and maintain GIS data using ESRI and custom GIS software, focusing on street centerline, hydrography, and other data layers. Evaluate, edit, and check graphics and attributes of various data layers using custom map production tools. Perform revisions and edits of GIS drawings and files according to instructions provided by supervisors. Manage additions or deletions of highlighted boundary or shape files as required. Maintain live spatial data in a secured environment, ensuring data integrity and security. Edit, modify, and create various data layers as part of your daily tasks. Work with customized data automation tools and procedures to maintain daily production schedules. Collaborate with team members, sharing GIS knowledge and expertise to enhance team performance. Essential Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must meet the following essential qualifications: A Certificate in GIS or an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, or a related field. Coursework or experience with ArcGIS (workstation and desktop), Arc View, and AutoCAD Map. Good organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Some knowledge of civil engineering, cartography, surveying, and drafting is desirable. Must be a US Citizen. Preferred Qualifications While not mandatory, the following qualifications can give you a competitive edge: Internships or experience in GIS-related projects. Experience with ArcSDE, ArcIMS, cartography, imagery, and understanding of databases. Previous work in a team environment where sharing GIS knowledge with other team members was required. Skills and Competencies To succeed in this role, you'll need: A strong foundation in GIS principles and practices. Proficiency in using GIS software, particularly ESRI products. Attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in data editing and maintenance. Effective communication and teamwork skills. Ability to adapt to new tools and procedures.
