Veterinary Technician-Open Until Filled
                                About the position
Responsibilities
• Assists the veterinarian in performing sterilization procedures and other surgeries.
• Conducts animal health examinations and assists in the treatment of sick or injured animals.
• Monitors animal population for any change in behavior, appetite, water/food intake, or any sign of illness; reports unusual situations to the veterinarian.
• Initiates treatment and provides medications based on established infectious disease protocols.
• Triage and initiate emergency stabilization and diagnostics with indirect supervision from veterinarian.
• Ensures clinic areas, equipment and supplies are cleaned, re-stocked and maintained appropriately.
• Verifies all animals have been vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered prior to adoption.
• Performs in house routine diagnostics and laboratory testing, including radiography.
• Administration of anesthetic medication by inhalation/intubation or intravenous injection, assists veterinarian during surgery as needed.
• Monitors animals during and after surgical procedures and provides appropriate nursing care to ensure animals are kept comfortable to optimize recovery.
• Performs dental cleaning, charting, and non-surgical extractions.
• Responsible for handling and documenting of controlled substances and following all policies and procedures related to such.
• Calculates and documents medication dosages, including controlled substances.
• Assists Veterinary Clinic Supervisor in maintaining inventory and orders pharmaceutical and surgical supplies/equipment.
• Dispenses prescribed medications and discharges animals to owners, providing at home care instructions.
• Performs humane euthanasia in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Maintaining medical records for individual animals, including associated charges for service.
Requirements
• Two (2) years' experience as a Vet Assistant or Vet Tech, or other closely related field, OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
• Associates degree from an accredited college or university in Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, or other closely related field, plus one (1) year of related experience; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
• Veterinary Technology certification through the State of Utah, or certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
• A valid Driver's License recognized by the State of Utah is required to operate a Salt Lake County vehicle at the time of hire.
• Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting in this position.
• Must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program.
